VPP build times are dramatically improved when the VPP ccache database is available in the slave VM. However, currently this only occurs if a build job happens to run on a slave that was previously used to build VPP. A VPP build that runs on a newly created slave VM takes about twice as long as one where the ccache database is populated.

This issue can be avoided by maintaining the VPP ccache database outside of the slave VMs and using the external ccache database for VPP builds. One means of achieving this would be to use NFS or another remote file system to mount an external storage unit that hosts the VPP ccache database.
